Sandplay is a way of exploring our inner world. Based on work done by the famous psychologist, Carl Jung, it can help us get in touch with our unconscious.
It involves the use of a sandtray and what we call 'symbols.' These can be figurines, miniature household items, trees, buildings, animals, model cars, jewelry and all kinds of small things.
The process involves selecting a few of these symbols and placing them in the sand. Much can be learned from those symbols which are chosen and how they are arranged in relation to each other. What appears to be just play can be a safe way to explore issues and facilitate healing.
Sandplay is especially suited to children and those who find it difficult to verbalise their feelings.
